Tonight, we gather here not only to celebrate the inauguration of a new Executive Council but to reaffirm our commitment to the alma mater that has shaped us into the individuals we are today. I am deeply honoured to stand before you as the newly elected National President of the Mount Saint Gabriel's Secondary School Alumni Association(2023-2026), and I extend my heartfelt gratitude to each and every one of you for entrusting us with this responsibility.
I stand before you tonight with a vision, contained in our manifesto which was rolled out to you some weeks ago. Our programmes will not only honour our cherished past but also pave the way for a brighter future for the Mount Saint Gabriel's Secondary School Alumni Association. Our manifesto was encapsulated under the banner of "OLD BOYS FIRST," which operates on the saying that “The alumni association is not just a community but also an extended family”. The manifesto stands on 5 pillars that outline our shared goals and aspirations. Please, permit me to run through the manifesto, once again.
Pillar 1: General Welfare for All Old Boys
Our first and foremost commitment is to ensure the well-being and interest of every member of our Alumni Association. We will establish robust support mechanism to assist alumni in times of need, because we recognise that our strength lies in our unity and mutual support.
One of such is the setting up of robust welfare mechanism, including a Business Committee, and the establishment of a health insurance scheme that would benefit Old Boys. To give insight into the insurance scheme, may I call on Dr. Terna Nomhwange, a former National President of the Association and Medical Doctor, operating at the highest level of global health to address us.
Pillar 2: Enhanced Infrastructural Growth and Instructional Materials for our Alma Mater
We cannot forget the institution that moulded us into the men we have become. We will collaborate with stakeholders to improve the school's infrastructure and ensure that our beloved alma mater is equipped with the necessary instructional materials to provide world-class education to its students.
We will operate a very inclusive style of administration. We will always encourage and work with all who have knowledge, skills and expertise to develop our alma mater.
In the light of this, I would like to crave your indulgence to invite the Principal of the School, Reverend Father James Utav, to give quick highlights of the SCHOOL NEEDS.
Pillar 3: Cordial Relationship with the School Proprietor
The Catholic Diocese of Makurdi, our School's Proprietor, has been instrumental to the success and values instilled in us. We will continue to strengthen the productive relationship between our Alumni Association and the Diocese, working together to maintain and uphold the values and traditions established under our esteemed former Principal, the late Rev. Fr. Angus Fraser.
Pillar 4: Increase the Vibrance of Our O.B.A. Website
In this digital age, it is imperative that we harness modern technology to connect all Old Boys, regardless of their location. We will develop a content strategy for our existing Alumni Association website, www.msgoba.com, so that it can better serve as a hub for communication, networking, and resource sharing. This platform is intended to not only keep us connected but also help us stay informed and engaged. We thank the previous Executives for their efforts in this regard. May I call on Dr. Stephen Akuma the designer of the website to give quick highlights about the website.
Pillar 4: Strengthen Relationship with Government and its Agencies
To ensure the prosperity of our alma mater, we will advocate for Mount Saint Gabriel's interests at the government level. By securing necessary support and recognition, we will promote partnerships with educational authorities to enhance the school's reputation and contribute to its growth.
In the light of this, I would like to express our sincere appreciation to our special guests who have graced this occasion. Your presence here today is a testament to the significance of our alma mater and its role in shaping the future of our great state and nation.
Fellow alumni, as we embark on this journey together, let us remember the core principle of "OLD BOYS FIRST." Together, we can ensure that the Mount Saint Gabriel's Secondary School Alumni Association remains a beacon of unity, progress, and service. Let us continue to enrich the legacy of our alma mater, and in doing so, make a lasting impact on the lives of future generations and contribute to the development of our great nation, Nigeria.
I humbly seek your support and collaboration in achieving these goals. Together, we can build a stronger and more prosperous future for our beloved alma mater and all its alumni.
Together, let’s get to work.
Arc. Austin Asema Achado
