PROF VEARUMUN TARHULE ASSUMES DUTIES AS PIONEER DEAN, FACULTY OF LAW, CATHOLIC UNIVERSITY, SUNYANI, GHANA.

This day 10th of July 2026 in Sunyani, the corridors of the Catholic University of Ghana were filled with measured anticipation as Prof Vearumun Tarhule, a renowned professor of Correctional Justice and an accomplished legal scholar, was formally received by the Vice Chancellor, Pro Vice Chancellor, Registrar, Director of Human Resources and senior academics 

of Catholic University Sunyani Ghana as the Pioneer Dean of the newly established Faculty of Law. 

For an institution distinguished by its commitment to ethical scholarship, service, and human dignity, the establishment of the Faculty of Law represents a strategic expansion of its academic mandate. Prof Tarhule’s appointment reflects the University’s resolve to deliver rigorous, contextually grounded legal education that harmonizes Ghanaian jurisprudence with the Catholic intellectual tradition. 

With a firm handshake and a gracious nod, he embraced the significance of the occasion, recognizing that he was not merely assuming an administrative post but laying the institutional and intellectual foundation for generations to come.

The responsibilities entrusted to Prof Tarhule as Dean extend well beyond ceremonial obligations. He is expected to spearhead the design and development of a comprehensive academic curriculum for both LLB and postgraduate programmes, ensuring full compliance with Ghana Legal Council benchmarks and the accreditation standards of the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission. 

He will lead the recruitment, mentorship, and professional evaluation of faculty, cultivating a collegial environment dedicated to scholarly research, excellence in moot court advocacy, and sustained pro bono engagement. On the administrative front, Prof Tarhule will *direct budget planning, optimize resource allocation, and forge strategic partnerships with key stakeholders including the Judiciary, the Ghana Bar Association, and leading international law schools. He will also assume institutional responsibility for all facets of student affairs within the Faculty, from the formulation of admissions and disciplinary policies to the promotion of a culture defined by integrity, ethical advocacy, and meaningful community engagement in line with the University’s mission.

In his brief but compelling inaugural address, Prof Tarhule emphasized people and purpose over physical structures. Law, he stated, is the architecture of justice, and this Faculty will train builders of equitable societies.

He unveiled plans to establish a Legal Aid Clinic to serve communities across the Bono Region, to create dedicated research centers focused on customary law, human rights, and transitional justice, and to institute an annual distinguished lecture series on law, ethics, and public service. 

As the resonant beat of drums from the campus cultural troupe echoed across the grounds, it was evident that a foundational moment had been realized. The Pioneer Dean had assumed duties, and with his leadership, a transformative chapter in legal education in Ghana has commenced.
