Architect Austin Alfred Asema Achado was born into the family of late Thomas Achado Bebe of Kyonov, Ngyohov District of Gwer Local Government Area of Benue State, on the 13th August 1962, at Udei, in the present Guma Local Government Area of Benue State.

He had his elementary education at St. Francis Primary School, Aliade and secondary education at Mt. St. Gabriel’s Secondary School, Makurdi, Benue State. He did his Post-Secondary Education at Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, where he obtained IJMB Certificate, BSc. Architecture and MSc. Architecture.

He has over 30 years of working experience, having served for eight( years in the Benue State Public Service, from 1988 – 1996. He joined the Benue State Local Government Service in 1988 as Pupil Architect and voluntarily retired as Principal Architect in 1996.

After his retirement, he founded Archtik Consultants, in 1996. Four years later, Archtik Consultants was granted Charter Registration by the Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). Thereafter, Arc. Achado assembled high profile colleagues in the construction industry on the board of Archtik Consultants, offering consultancy services in Architecture, Engineering, Building, Quantity Surveying, Arbitration and Environmental Consultancy. As the Principal Partner/CEO, he is one amongst equals.

Arc. Achado is a FELLOW of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA) and corporate member of Architects Registration Council of Nigeria (ARCON). He served as the Chapter Chairman of the Nigerian Institute of Architects (NIA), Benue State Chapter, from 2003 to November 2009 and National Ex-Officio Member of the Nigerian Institute of Architects from November 2009 to November 2011. He is a founding member of the Association of Consulting Architects Nigeria (ACANigeria). Arc. Achado is a Chartered Member of Society of Construction Industry Arbitrators. He has served on several Arbitration Panels.

He is registered as an Environmental Consultant with National Environmental Standards and Regulations Enforcement Agency(NESREA).

Architect Austin Asema Achado was married for 25 years to Mrs Shidoo Yvonne Achado, who passed on 13th July, 2013. Arc. Achado remarried in 2018 to Princess Freda Nguamo Achado(Nee Gendaga Damna). Both marriages are blessed with children.

Arc. Achado has indulged in business and excelled outside his architectural practice. His affection for quality education led to the founding of Angus College Makurdi and Benysta College Makurdi. It is imperative to note that such affection for education correlates with Arc. Achado’s flare for business. His other business ventures are Benysta Hotel Gwarinpa, Abuja, Benysta Microfinance Bank, Makurdi and City Bay Park, Makurdi.

Arc. Achado has served several organisations from his undergraduate days till date. Some of the organisations he served are as follows:

• Former National President, National Union of Benue State Students,

• Former Chairman, Nigerian Institute of Architects, Benue State Chapter,

• Past President, Benue Chamber of Commerce, Industry, Mines, and Agriculture (BECCIMA).

• Arc. Achado is currently the Patron of Benue Entrepreneurs Network

• Current Zonal Coordinator, overseeing Rotary International activities in Benue and Nassarawa States.

• He is the Current National President, Mt. St. Gabriel’s Secondary School Makurdi OLD BOYS ASSOCIATION

• Arc. Achado is a Knight of the ancient and noble order of St. John International.

LANDMARK PROFESSIONAL CONSULTANCY PROJECTS

8. Some of the landmark projects in Arc. Achado’s architectural practice include:

• Senate Building of University of Maiduguri,

• Senate Building for Kaduna State University, Kaduna,

• Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi;

• Academic Publishing Centres, located in seven(7) Nigerian Universities and Nigeria Police Academy, Kano;

• Four(4) Floors Students’ Hostels for University of Benin and Federal University of Technology, Owerri;

• 3000 capacity Central Library and Indoor Sports Hall for Delta State University, Abraka

• Police Resource Center, Abuja

• Tor Tiv Palace, Gboko

• City Bay Recreation/Event Center, Makurdi

• Academic Resource Center, Lagos State University, Ojo

• The design of the entire National Open University of Nigeria, main campus, Abuja.

SERVICE TO NATION/HUMANITY

9. Arc. Achado has unmatchable record of community service in Benue State. Some of his community service projects are as follows:

• Construction of Township Roads in Aliade,

• Installation of 500KVA transformers and rural electrification of Aliade, Howe, Taraku, Ashina, Mbaba, Makurdi, Naka towns/villages in Benue State and Airport Road Abuja.

• Construction of 2,000 capacity Ss Peter and Paul Catholic Church Building at Aliade and donation of the Building to the Catholic Diocese of Makurdi.

• He has scholarship scheme for indigent students at Benue State University, Makurdi.

• On empowerment, he has domiciled a Micro-Credit Loan Scheme in Benysta Microfinance Bank, which has helped many young people to commence businesses.

IMPACT ON COMMUNITY/NATION

10. Arc. Achado’s selfless community driven initiatives have impacted in the following ways:

• Construction of Township Roads: The roads within Aliade Township were in horrible shape by 2015. Some residents could not drive their vehicles to their houses because of the poor quality of the roads. Arc. Achado constructed 5 kilometers of the township roads, with drainages in 2016. The project has given Aliade, the headquarters of Gwer East Local Government Area, the desired facelift and ensured smooth transportation within the township.

• Installation of 500KVA/300KVA transformers and rural electrification of communities: Arc. Achado’s rural electrification initiative has boosted commercial activities in the benefitting communities, in addition to enhancing security and better livelihood of the residents.

• Construction/Donation of 2,000 capacity Catholic Church Building: Religious practice promotes the general well-being of individuals, families and the community. The aesthetical church building has provided enabling environment for worship, increased church membership and tourism. Undocumented report has it that incidence of domestic abuse, crime, substance and addiction have reduced in the community.

• Scholarship scheme for indigent students at Benue State University Makurdi: The Scholarship scheme, which is domiciled with the University is free money for the beneficiaries. This has enabled the beneficiaries focus on their studies, instead of worrying how to raise money for school fees.

• Empowerment: The domiciled Micro-Credit Scheme in Benysta Microfinance Bank has helped many young people to commence small scale businesses.

Arc. Austin Asema Achado (FNIA,KSJ,MD) is currently a member of the House of Representatives, Federal Republic of Nigeria,representing Gwer West/Gwer East federal constituency under the

platform of All Progressives Congress (APC).
