SPOTLIGHT - AKO ISAAC TORYILA
Born 23rd March 1974 to the family of late Barr. J. K. Ako and Barr. Mrs Rhoda M. Ako, Isaac had his early education at Robert F. Kennedy primary school Gboko. He graduated in 1985 and first went to NKST Bristow Sec. Sch. Gboko before leaving for Mt. St. Gabriel’s in1987 joining in form 2 (as it were) second term.
He was made a labour prefect and keys prefect (same time) by Fr. Fraser. He was later to switch positions of the keys prefect with Venantius Allam (now Doocivir Yawe), who was a food prefect, known then as senator. Isaac passed out from MSG in ‘91 and proceeded to ABU Zaria in ‘93 to graduate in ‘99 with a B.Sc in Sociology.
He did his NYSC primary assignment at Afribank Nig. Plc in Lagos 2000 and was thereafter absorbed into mainstream banking out of hardwork, resilience and dedication to duty heading units like Tellering, Clearing, Funds Transfer, Customer Service, and Accounts. He left Afribank in 2008 for FCMB, at the Wuse 2 branch in Abuja and was posted to Public Sector Group (PSG) as head, FIRS collections.
In 2009, Equatorial Trust Bank(ETB) hired Isaac as an Assistant Manager and he was posted to Central Business District Branch CBD Abuja to work at Retail /Commercial banking sector, then another posting to Kado branch Abuja as Branch manager in 2011. The merger between ETB and Sterling Bank Plc had Isaac absorbed into Sterling Bank in 2011, where he stayed till 2012 before exiting the banking industry.
His versatility and many postings meant Isaac was always catching up on things which led to his taking many courses and career advancement skills. Some include:
- Selling and negotiation skills
- Customer service excellence
- Credit risk management
- Project management
- Consumer behavior and relationships management
Isaac Ako is a dedicated member of the MSGOBA family and a jolly good fellow at that. He currently serves as President of set 1991 and is always leading from the front.
As a socialite and sports enthusiast, Isaac is an ardent lover and player of lawn tennis which has its roots back in MSG in year 1989, through the tutorial of Anthony Ogbu and Tersoo Ayabam who were both his classmates. Isaac has stayed with the racquet sport till date, rising to become a secretary of his tennis club in Makurdi. He is a member of the Catholic Men Organization (CMO), Tiv Catholic Community Makurdi, loves meeting new friends, music, and research work. He is married to Stephanie and has two beautiful daughters.
